Hydrochlorothiazide
Hydrochlorothiazide is an effective medication that prevents high blood pressure and doesn’t allow excess water to retain in the body. What Hydrochlorothiazide does is to remove the excess of salt as well as water through the kidney. Thus it decreases the volume of blood thereby reducing the blood pressure as well. This drug is sold in the market under many brand names such as HydroDiuril, Oretic, Microzide and Esidrix. It is available as generic too. This drug comes under the group of diuretics and is at times also called as ‘water pill’.
Though not clear but it is said that this drug can be used to treat infants and teenagers with high blood pressure as well. But you need to talk to your doctor before taking any such step. It is not proven to be safe so it would be advisable to be careful. The excess salt and water that is removed with the help of kidneys is passed out of the body through urination.
Hydrochlorothiazide is generally administered orally once a day but the prescription varies from one individual to the other. You must consume the medication as prescribed by your doctor. At times on the doctor’s recommendation the tablets form of the medication can be split into two halves. Consume one of these halves. This reduces the actual dosage of the tablet into the half of it. Keep in mind to administer this medication at the same time regularly every day. People using this treatment for the problem of edema commonly known as fluid retention are not generally recommended this medicine on every day basis.
Though the medicine can be taken in any time, it would be advisable to consume it in the morning hours since this medicine would increase your urination and it would be difficult to be up from the bed at the night for urination. But again if your doctor prescribes you some other general time of the intake of medicine do not hesitate to follow him.
